PREFACE
This publication will provide a basic framework regarding the rights of Rhode Islanders with disabilities. This fundamental understanding of disability law is merely a starting point in the process of ensuring that these rights are preserved. Throughout this publication, resources are listed. The address and phone number for each of these resources can be found in Appendix A. Due to constant changes in the laws, check with these resources to ensure the current accuracy of the information.
This book is informal technical assistance and not legal advice. An individual case may involve technicalities that require the assistance of an attorney. There are agencies who provide free and low-cost legal advice to persons with disabilities (see Appendix B for a description of these agencies).
Because of the constantly changing nature of the law, this publication will never be a finished product. As changes in the law dictate, revisions of this document will be produced to maintain the currency of the information. This publication is in electronic format so that the updates can be inserted into this book annually.
